Grades OUT!!!

Grades have been posted at Southern for the Fall 2006 semester. I got 2 As. I'm so proud. That brings my cumulative GPA up to a 3.606.

In my Accounting course an A was guaranteed.

In Visual Basic, it was dicey. I accidentally clicked a wrong button and submitted a test with 9 unanswered questioned. That cost me a letter grade on the final. Only a program clitch in his grade averaging allowed me the A. I reported that to him, but I guess he decided not to fix it. Which is fine with me.

I might have to go get myself some sort of happy tonight to celebrate, although I don't know what I would get...

Renn Fest

The Renn Fest on Saturday was AWESOME! I spent at least 5 hours on my feet, but that's what sneakers are for!

As our large group slowly made its rounds we gradually broke apart. I ever lost my husband for a few hours!

We all started out by throwing axes, knives, and stars. I sucked! Then I ended up with Shay, Dee, and their boys for a few hours after the hubby disappeared. We saw the Royal Tigers (White Bengals) and had our picture taken. We also saw the Joust. It was a pretty good show, but Dee said she had seen much better.

After a lot of wandering around, and buying an ale bottle ($1 refills forever and eternity), we eventually found my husband again. We watched the Duelists (a very funny show) and then saw Jameson the juggler. He was awesome too.

Then the hubby and I wandered around on our own for a while. We checked out different jewelry and clothing booths. And he checked out the sword shop. I also went to see the tigers again with Josh, but we didn't do a picture.

Then we meet up with several other group memebers and watched a short version of the Pirates show. It was Shantyman and Bonnie Lass. They were really funny too.

Then, the entire group meet up as the festival was closing and watched a fire breather perform.

We didn't carry nearly enough money (then again, didn't know too!). I got a bottle to take back next year, a dragon tote bag, a dragon cedar box (a christmas present from Josh), and we both bought food. A lot of our money went to tips for performers though. I can not wait to go again next year. We'll be going in costume then!

Christmas Song Meme

Tigerlily tagged me!!! Thanks. That improved my mood a bit.

CHRISTMAS SONG MEME: This one is pretty easy. List (at least) five of your favorite Christmas songs and tag (at least) five of your favorite blog friends to keep your MEME going.

I sometimes have trouble picking Christmas songs. It's a long list that I have...

Carol of the Bells -- I just can't help but love this song. I actually sang it for the first time last year in a pagent.

Deck the Halls -- Fa la la, la la la, la la la. I don't know why, but that is my favorite part of the song.

Grandma got Run over by A Reindeer -- It's a song that just gets stuck in your head.

The Twelve Days of Christmas -- I never can remember all the lyrics of this song, but I truely love it. I find it funny that I managed to learn all the music for the Christmas program last year, yet CAN NOT remember the lyrics to this.

Crap! I can't remember the name of any other songs!!! Well, I'll go a head and post this, and I'll edit it later.

And I'll be tagging: Jackie, TC, Kelley, Brandi, and Arlene.

So, I'll get y'all tagged this afternoon, and you can let me know when you have your post up!

I hate that I work for a place that can't afford decent equipment or decent help. One of our major pieces of software croaks with the slightest network hiccup. And it's done that to me twice today. I just consider par for the course and don't let it get to me. If it chooses to crash, I jot down what I need to remember and restart the program. No har no foul, right?

Well one of my coworkers doesn't necessarily subscribe to that philosophy. She got MAD when it happened. Now, knowing how unstable our wireless network is she has been insisting on using it instead of connecting to the hardwire in the office. Well, she had problems with the software 4 times today. The last time she was in the middle of a work order. And she got made enough to slam her hand down on the table and do what amounts to cursing for her.

At the same time, she had send an IM to the boss-man about something. And he started asking questions about it. So she got mad at him. Good grief. She's been ridiculous all day. But at least she isn't back to her old self and not talking to anyone. I might can handle her like this. But hopefully she will get out of it by tomorrow.

Casino Royale

This movie was FANTASTIC!!! I think it is the best Bond film ever.

Okay, I know that sounds somewhat juvenile, but it's true. I think that this has easily become my favorite Bond movie. It's a great movie overall, and it keeps you on your toes.

I, like most, wasn't sure I would like Daniel Craig as James Bond. But he pulls off Bond incredibly well. He has the attitude and action down so well. And while he isn't the OH My! handsome that some others have brought to Bond, his eyes make up for it, and then some. I certianly couldn't turn him down!

And, since I like Bond movies some might not listen as much. But, my friend Chonda doesn't like Bond movies. But I think she really enjoyed the movie last night. If nothing else, she was apparently stck on Daniel Craig. And what can I say, I like him too!!!

Thanksgiving Holidays

Ok, the holidays were pretty cool. I didn't get much of anything done though.

Ate with The Williams and the Overstreets on Thursday. It was GOOD. I thought I might have ate too much, but I was ok.

On Friday morning Josh and I went shopping. We came away with our Christmas presents for each other, but nothing else on the Christmas list. After shopping we slept a lot. And then ate supper with the McKenzies (his mom's family).

Saturday we got up and drove to my sister's house for another thanksgiving meal. It was nice to see everyone. However, it kinda sucked that Ashleigh was sick. But she felt better by Sunday morning.

Then we drove back and did dinner and a movie with Chonda and William and Greg and Thomasina. That was cool. Unfortunately I had to do homework when I got home. And I didn't get enough sleep last night.

22 November 2006

Well, the Hattiesburg City Council has given it's ok to make this a smoke free city. I personally think it's a little dumb, but they didn't ask me.

I'll admit, I'm not a smoker. But a lot of my friends are. And now they can't smoke in restaurants or bars. I can understand banning smoking in restaurants. A lot of people don't like to be around smoke while they are eating. And I can understand that. I can even understand it upsetting some people because that put kids around all the second hand smoke.

But when it comes to a bar, that is just part of the experience. I have friends that ONLY smoke socially. So, if they go two weeks without going to a bar or something like that, they don't touch a cigarette. It's just something they do when they are out drinking with friends. Now, I'm not saying that I think that's ok or anything, but I do think it is something people should be allowed to do.

Ok, and since I can't string together anything remotely coherent this morning, I'll sum this up with my friend Chuck's opinion on the matter. "damn stupid bastards"

20 November 2006

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/20/bus.crash/index.html

And this sort of sad story is exactly why school busses should all have seat belts. Of course, with that sort of drop that doesn't guarantee anything. But I've been in school bus accidents before. Luckily small ones, but I've always felt they should have seat belts.

Meme

I just read this meme on Amanda Jane's blog ande thought I would do it this morning. Not that we are bored at work or anything....

Do you snore? My husband has told me that I do. I guess it shouldn't surprise me.

Are you a lover or a fighter? That one depends on the situation. Although, I'm probably a fighter a larger percentage of the time.

What's your worst fear? Falling. I don't fear anything worse than that. It's always struck me as an odd thing to fear. I keep testing myself some on it, but it's still there. I guess part of my fear comes from how clumsy I am.

As a kid, were you a lego maniac? I love legos even today. I think that no kid can have too many of the things. I never had a lot of the fancy sets though. I even have trouble with them now.

What do you think of "Reality" TV? I think it's stupid. There have only been one or two of them that I have liked, and I didn't even watch those regularly. I wish I could actually manage to catch Making the Team though. I've really enjoyed the episodes I've seen.

Do you chew on your straws? Sometimes when I am finished with the drink. But VERY RARELY while I'm still drinking.

Were you a cute baby? I suppose so. Almost all babies are cute though.

Is the single life for you? It was fun then, but I'm enjoying married life.

Do you sing in the shower? Nope. I would hate to wake up my husband at 5:30 AM. That would be mean... (Maybe I should do that sometime....)

Have you ever bungee jumped? Nope. Not on my To Do list either. My luck the stupid cord would break.

Any secret talents? Can't think of any. I don't think being bossy counts for anything. Well, I am really good at considering mutiple sides of issues... Does that count?

What's your ideal vacation spot? OOOO Tough question... I like mountains, they're nice. Little towns with neat stores. I also enjoy the beach when it isn't too crowded or hot. (My first time to really go to the beach was on my honeymoon. I loved the ocean!)

Can you swim? Not really. I don't drown in the pool though.

Have you seen the movie Donnie Darko? Never heard of it. I might try to see it sometime though.

Do you give a damn about the ozone? Yes, I certianly do. I also give a damn about the rainforests and exhaust emissions. I would rather not raise children in a wasteyard. But unfortunately we have done some serious damage to our planet and I'm not sure we can really correct it.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? 3. Although it's been so long since I had one that I couldn't tell you from experience. But I LOVE the owl....

Can you sing the alphabet backwards? I can barely say, much less sing, the alphabet forwards. I would hate to think about what backwards would come out like...

Do you prefer electric or manual pencil sharpener? I prefer mechanical pencils.

What's your stand on hunting? It's fine for food, but not for a trophy.

Is marriage in your future? I hope so. I can't afford a divorce yet.

Do you like your handwriting? Depends on if I've gotten to the point of day when it's illegible.

What are you allergic to? peppers, laundry detergents, and I have other acute allergies

When was the last time you said, " I love you?" This morning to my husband.

Do you cry at weddings? Nope. Didn't at mine, my sisters, or anyone else's.

How do you like your eggs? Scrambled

Are blondes dumb? Only bleached blondes. Us naturals are rather intelligent. I think it's the chemicals...

Where does the other sock end up? I think it ends up in some screwed up dragon's horde. There's a dragon out there who just CAN NOT get enough socks.

What time is is? It's 11:26 AM now, and I probably won't manage to finish this until sometime after lunch.

Do you have a nickname? Uhhh, not really sure? I get called everything under the sun.

Is McDonald's disgusting? Some of them are, but not all. The one we have by campus now is pretty cool. I like salads.

When was the last time you were in a car? When I drove my friend to his bus stop so he could go to work this morning.

Do you prefer baths or showers? Showers are for mornings, baths are for evenings. And baths require a book, and benefit from wine.

Is Santa Claus real? Of course!!!!

Do you like to have your neck kissed? I do when it doesn't tickle. Lately it usually tickles.

Are you afraid of the dark? Nope. Fun stuff happens in the dark.

What are you addicted to? Chocolate. Is there anything else to be addicted to?

Crunchy or creamy peanut butter? CREAMY! Take it how you will.

Can you crack you neck? Sometimes.

have you ever ridden in an ambulance? Nope. With some good luck I'll never have to.

Is drug free the way to be? Depends on the drug.

Are you a heavy sleeper? YUP! Most times nothing will wake me up.

What color are your eyes? Hazel.

Do you like your life? Yeah. I complain, but I shouldn't. I really do have it rather good compared to a lot of people.

Are you psychic? Nope. Don't want to be either.

Have you read Catcher in the Rye? Nope. It's on the To Do list though.

Do you play any instruments? Does my zen micro count?

Have you ever stolen money? Nope. But I've thought about it!

Can you snowboard? Nope. It might make the To Do list one day though.

Do you like camping? Camping is fun. I've always enjoyed it. I just don't get to do it enough.

Do you snort when you laugh? Rarely.

Do you believe in magic? How else do you think we all still live here? The human race should have killed itself off years ago.

Are dogs a man's best friend? Well, I guess it depends on the man. I would think that dogs would hate bad men. But I could be wrong...

Do you believe in divorce? I don't think it really matters if I believe in it or not. That isn't going to stop people from getting divorced. But I do think that it is the right thing for couples that have tried to fix their marriage and just can't do it.

Can you do the moonwalk? Never tried.

Do you make a lot of mistakes? Not on purpose.

Is it cold ouside today? Step outside and find out. Don't take my word for it.

What was the last thing you ate? A fry

Do you wear nail polish? Sometimes, but not often.

How many people do you like right now? I hate people.

What's the most annoying TV commercial? I hate local commercials. Which in turn makes me hate cable.

Favorite song at the moment? uhh...Theme song to Witch Hunter Robin

Wow. It's only taken until after 1 to finish this. Amazing.

Do you believe there is intelligent life on other planets?

There's intelligent life on this one?

Soup
What is one thing you said you'd never do, but you eventually did?

Get married.

Salad
Who is the teacher that influenced you the most in school?

Mrs. Coleman, my 4th grade teacher. She's still one of my most favorite people.

Main Course
If you could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be and why?

I think I would trade places with a lady that has enough money that she doesn't have to work. Not because I don't enjoy work, but because I would like the experience of being able to volunteer for all the stuff I want to do, but can't because I have to be at work.

Dessert
What is your favorite dish to prepare?

Probably Pecan Pie, although I'm not going to make it this year. This has always been my specialty. Daddy even told Momma one time that hers was good, but mine was better!

Loserz

So, a while back I totally fell in love with the webcomic Loserz. It's wonderful. It's about three kids in high school. And they are geeks. So, of course, this is heaven and makes sense to me.

Well, Erik hasn't posted for a little while. He finally started going through and it updating regularly so the story is continuing. And I just loved what I found this morning. It makes my day complete.

Ok, I'm done sharing....

Bad Start Weekend

Well, things were somewhat cool this weekend. Even if they didn't start very well.

I woke up feeling bad Friday and ended up not going to work. And apparently the bossman didn't get my message and everyone was wondering what had happened to me. No one had realized that I had left my laptop at work Thursday night and then figured I must have been in and went somewhere else because it was there Friday and I wasn't. I'll just have to remember to always keep it with me in the future.

Luckily I was feeling better by lunch since I had to go to a funeral. It was tough. Both Josh and I were doing good and not crying until right at the end. Mr. Mike, the little girl's grandfather, got up to read a poem. That did us both in. Those Riley's are just good at getting under your skin.

Friday night our game was cancelled because the Little women were sick. That was ok, but I ended up bored at The Gamer Sanctuary for most of the evening. It finally started getting interesting though later on in the night.

Saturday our friend Shay was sick, so that game was cancelled too. Josh went up to The Gamer Sanctuary for a while, but I stayed home and watched The Lake House. Then he came home to eat supper and work more on his computers. Then Chuck and Chris came over and we watched Lucky # Slevin. THEN Stimpy called Chuck and said that he and Chanda were going to stop by our place. That was amusing. He doesn't call the people that have the place. Anyway, Chanda asked me to go dancing with her at the gay bar. I almost went. But I think she was probably planning to stay out later that I was really up for. So I decided to stay at the apartment with the guys. I'll probably go dancing with her next time though. She's cute and my husband doesn't dance. Why not? :) And we watched Star Wars IV.

Yesterday was mostly uneventful. We watched the rest of Fun with Dick and Jane from when we had started it earlier in the week. And Josh decided that he doesn't care for linux. I'm not surprised though. He doesn't know how to do anything with it. We'll get him running with Windows this evening or tomorrow though.

Wow. What a weekend. Sick, Sad, Bored, Asked out by a girl, Watched a lot of movies, and basically did a lot of nothing. Wonder if the next one will be so busy. (And, yes, I know I wasn't asked out like that!)

Edit: Oh! And I read a couple of good books this weekend too! Golden Threads by Kate Hooper (I think!) and a book by Tami Houg (sp?). It's the first Houg book I've read. It was pretty good.

08 November 2006

News That I Wish I Could Skip

I got a call not to long ago from Josh. Aunt Margaret is at Wesley. She had to have emergency surgery. There goes my cooking plan for the evening. And possibly all my other plans as well. Oh well, family is first.

06 November 2006

Score!!!

Ms. Oliver, one of the ladies in an organization I'm in, gave me her book for Business Ethics. She apparently took it this semester and was offering it to anyone that would be taking the course.
Of course, I still need a webct code of the book, but I can get that for $14.35 from the publisher. I thought that was awesome.
I can't believe my good luck today. I figured she was going to want money for it and I was going to have to decide if I could afford it in cash. But, when I got back from lunch it was sitting on the counter. And had a note that said Free of Charge. That just perked up my day!!!!

Amazing Weekend

Wow. This weekend was cool. I was busy, but it was still awesome.

Friday night we handled character generation for The World's Largest Dungeon. I'm playing a 5' human fighter. She is going to rock in a few levels, if she doesn't die first. I even got 100 XP for being the first to finish my character. So, YAY!, Billie Thomas (Yes, that is her name) gets a head start. I don't think I've ever been the first to finish a character before. We even got in a little bit of play time. And Billie is pretty cool....

Saturday was Worldwide Game Day for Wizards of the Coast. Needless to say Josh and I spent a good chunck of the day at The Gamer Sanctuary. Josh and I both played the game module that Wizards set up, complete with their sucky characters. We even beat the module the second time we played. That was pretty awesome. The characters are NOT supposed to win. I also ran twice in pregen parties against a red dragon. That was pretty cool. I died first on the first time. The stupid wizard decided that it would be a great first action to teleport the CLERIC right to the dragon's feet. Bye-Bye cleric. The second time the cleric lived because when it was down to him and one other character, the other character decided to teleport us to safety. I'll admit to jokingly asking if he was going to teleport us away. Then he actually did it. That's ok though because the characters can't beat the red dragon.

Or Saturday was sort of normal. We hung out around the apartment and got some work done. We even VACUUMED! I'm impressed with Josh and myself. I seriously hate to vacuum.

01 November 2006

Dentist Visit

I went to the dentist this morning. He said my teeth look good. And now they feel funny and hurt. But they will do that for a couple of days now. My teeth are entirely TOO sensitive. But that is what sensodine is for. Wonderful toothpaste.

He also said that we don't have to do anything about my wisdom teeth yet. He'll worry about a referral to get those removed when they start bothering me again. I seriously dread that. My wisdom teeth are perpendicular to the rest of my teeth!!!

31 October 2006

Yesterday at work wasn't too bad. While not huge on conversation, my coworker was doing a lot better and we did talk some.
However, I have no huge hopes for today. My head hurts like hell this morning. But I'm still up and going! It's Halloween and I have cupcakes for the guys at work, and Jan if she wants one....

27 October 2006

Your Personality Is Like Acid

A bit wacky, you're very difficult to predict.

One moment you're in your own little happy universe...

And the next, you're on a bad trip to your own personal hell!

Happy Birthday to ME!!!

I promise not to sing myself a song. But I'm happy it's my birthday. And I'm almost happy to be sitting at work this morning. Even if it is a rainy day. At least I hadn't taken off. I wouldn't want to do anything! As much fun as it is to lay around the house, I don't want to have a lazy birthday.

I spent half the money from Momma on the cookbook I bought last night. The Pink Palate The proceeds go to Waiting for the Cure. I figure it's a great charity. And I LOVE cookbooks. Even if I'm not really allowed to by anymore. This one was a special case. :)

Josh gave me a copy of Kinetic for the PS2. It's an exercise game that utilizes the Eye Toy. I'll try it out either tonight or tomorrow.

And I've had people at work wish me a happy birthday this morning. That makes me feel good. They thought of me. I just can't wait to see what the rest of the day holds!!!

Spirit Girls' Night Out

I had so much fun at the Spirit of Women event last night. Got a hand massage, and a scalp massage. AND I got a chair massage. All things that I think I really needed. :)
I also got a bone density scan done. I scored a -0.6. That's in the normal range, but it's not very far from not good. So I'm going to have to work on that.

I also won a door prize. It's a really pretty hanging candle holder thingie. I would post a picture of it, but I haven't gotten my new laptop to recognize my camera yet. Meanie computer!!!

We also got a night shirt for attending the event. I was surprised that it actually fit me. They ordered them for REAL people!!!!! And I bought a copy of The Pink Palate. It's a neat cookbook so far.
Feast One Hundred & Seventeen

Appetizer
Create a new candle scent.
Hazelnut Rain. Just because I love hazelnut and it's raining today.

Soup
Name one way you show affection to others.
I honestly pick on most of my friends. If I don't like you, I won't bother with trying to come up with something mean to say.

Salad
What is your favorite writing instrument?
I LOVE the Pilot Precise Zing. Unfortunately, you can't buy them in Hattiesburg. Anywhere. I have looked.

Main Course
If you were given $25 to spend anywhere online, from which site would you buy?
Probably Amazon.Com. I could get two or three books for that.

Dessert
Are you dressing up for Halloween? If so, what are you going to be?
I REALLY wanted to get this goth costume, but I can't afford it. I also REALLY wanted to make a Tavern Wench costume, but couldn't justify the expense. Since I'm losing weight, it wouldn't fit next year. So I think I'll just be Mrs. Unsociable. That should be fairly easy. :)

24 October 2006

You can say all day long that you aren't going to let something get to you. Or somebody. But, when you are actually faced with it, it's a lot harder.

I keep saying that I won't let my coworker get to me. But when I actually sit next to her for my ENTIRE work day, it does affect me. She is the only person that I see all day. Everyone else is just in and out. A minute here and a minute there. And she won't talk to me. I'll admit to being a less than social person by nature. But even I have trouble working all day in silence.

I actually tried to draw her out today. She didn't really respond.

I love my job, really I do. It's great to be able to help people out. But maybe I've been here to long and need to try and find something else. It might save my sanity if nothing esle...

Lots of Stuff

It's time to work on the Christmas list. That's not really easy since I still don't know what to ask for when it comes to my birthday! I'm kinda thinking clothes, a set of Billy Bands, and something else. I'm lucky in that Momma doesn't ask me (for the most part). She always manages to find cool stuff for me without much instruction.

We're having company over tonight. It was requested that I do roast beef sandwiches again. I SOOO did not want to get up this morning and put on the roast.

23 October 2006

Walk For Life

The Walk was great this evening. I walked around with Ms. Sumrall and some other ladies. We were so proud to make it through. And SOOO tempted by the Mugshots burgers at the end! :)

Ms. Sumrall said that she thought there were more people there this year. I can't wait to hear a count of how many! I know we managed to raise a lot of money for the Hope Foundation.

I walked in memory of my grandmother, Ms. Josie Smith. It was nice to walk around with that sign on my back. I'm very happy to say that she was represented among the walkers. I wish that it could have been a sign that said 'In Honor Of', but I know that she is much better off now.

Second Annual Walk for Life

And I'm REALLY looking forward to the Walk for Life this afternoon. The proceeds go to the Deanna Favre Hope Foundation. If anyone in the area is interested, the entry fee is $10 and registration starts at 4 pm at The Dome on the USM Hattiesburg campus. The walk itself starts at 5:30.

The foundation supports breast cancer awareness programs. Even if you don't have breasts, you know and love someone who does!

20 October 2006

20 minutes...

Til I get off work. And the day is going alright. It's not wonderful, but not bad. I've just decided to not let her bother me. Although it was a bit difficult this morning after the DIRTY look she gave me. And it was certianly worthy of all-caps.

The boss lady and Brandi came by the office this morning for some work stuff. They chatted with me and Jan for a while. Jan was on decent behavior, but I think it might have been noticable that she wasn't participating it the conversations that I was. I didn't participate in some of the conversation because it was about the iTech Fiesta this evening. I didn't see much a point in participating since I won't even be in this part of the state!

Josh just called to say that he's still out on a call so he'll be late. But that's ok. We'll be ok as long as we leave by 1:30 or 2. That would get us there in time for supper. But if for some reason we can't do that, well, we'll just be later!

Feast One Hundred & Sixteen

These are leftovers from the 10/15/2004 Feast. The Chef is busy and tired. Thanks for playing!

Appetizer
What is your favorite beverage?
I would say tea.

Soup
Name 3 things that are on your computer desk at home or work.
Bunzie, a cure little bunny that Josh gave me.
My farris wheel picture frame. It's full of old pictures. I HAVE to update it with some wedding pics.

Salad
On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being highest), how honest do you think you are?
I would say 9. I do occassionally not tell people just how much I hate them. At least, not to theit face.

Main Course
If you could change the name of one city in the world, what would you rename it and why?
I would change the name of Enterprise, Mississippi. I'm not sure what I would change it to, or which town with the name I would change. I would just change one of them though, because North Mississippi and Central Mississippi both have a community called Enterprise.

Dessert
What stresses you out? What calms you down?
Right now I would simply say that my coworker stresses me. But otherwise, I have a tendency to get stressed when I'm in a large group. I don't like crowds.
I'm usually calmed down by a good book or some good exercise. Or a very large margarita!

Get the Friday's Feast code here!
I will not let her ruin my day.
I will not let her ruin my day.
I will not let her ruin my day.

I will not strangle her.
I will not strangle her.
I will not strangle her.

Ok, now if anyone needs more than one guess at who is trying to ruin my day, you need to read some history. I'm going to see my parents to celebrate my birthday this weekend, and I'll be seeing some family I haven't seen since the wedding, and hopefully some that I haven't seen since before then. And I can't let her make that start out on a bad note. I can't!
Am I the only one that has disturbing dreams when I sleep in? I decided to sleep in a little this morning. Not incrediblly late, nothing like yesterday!!! But I went back to sleep after resetting my alarm clock.
And dreamed that I woke up at 7. And that there were a couple of new people in the apartment and because of them I couldn't take a shower. One was a guy from work, I don't remember who, and he was washing out our coffee pot in the bathroom. I don't know how the other guy was, but he was washing something in a sink that was in the bedroom.
Needless to say this was a little distrubing.
When my alarm went off again I didn't decide to stay in bed any longer!

Tae Bo

I did my first Tae Bo work out last night. It was the Fat Blasting DVD. I actually enjoyed it. I couldn't do everything in it though. I think I managed to actually do 30 out of 50 minutes. I think that's pretty good considering I'm not in good shape. I might even try it again tonight!

Brad's Good Luck

Now that I have finished my tirade about my coworker, now time to spread the good news about another one.
Brad is one of our PC Techs in the office, at least, he is until 5. He has received a position with our systems team and today is his last day with us. I'm really happy for him to be moving up. If you include his working 4 years for us as a student worker he has the longest work history here. He really deserves the position.

Of course, something really amusing happened when he got back from lunch. We have to punch a time clock here. And he clocked out perfectly fine when he left for lunch. When he came back and tried to clock in it told him he had been terminated. We all thought that was amusing.

So, Brad, even though you don't read my blog (or know that I have one probably) good luck in your new position.!

Coworkers....

I'm finding it hard to stay upbeat this afternoon. And it's not even 1 yet. I WANT to be happy. But it's pretty hard when the person who sits next to you hates you and is being bitchy with you the entire time.
I've tried to be nice and friendly, because I'm a friendly person. I ask her how her evening was, wish her a good lunch when she leaves for that, wish her a good evening at the end of the day. I try to ask her questions during the day. I try to get her involve in anything major I do in the office. But she barely responds to me. Most of the time I don't even know WHAT she says in response because she says it so low.
I see her interacting perfectly normally with other people in the office, assuming I'm not involved, so I know it has something to do with me. It can't just be her if she's fine with everyone else. I keep trying to think of anything I have done to her to make her act this way, but I simply can't think of anything.

Before she left for lunch I asked her if she had not gotten a chance to do some of the ATGs this morning. And she says, "I did like 12 this morning" in this defensive voice. I wasn't even accusing her of anything. The system was down this morning until just before I had to leave for a meeting. I did as many of them as I could before I left, but I didn't have time to do them all. I do that 8-9, and then not again until 12:30. She sits beside me and does them at 10. It was a simple question to ask if she had just NOT HAD TIME. I understand that. It happens. When I asked I didn't really realize that one of the guys in the office was out. And he is supposed to do this 9-10 and 11-12. Had I realized that, I would have been working on it before lunch. This is a question she has asked me a hundred times since we've been working in the same office. I've always answered truthfully and not taken offense at it. Things can get busy and you don't have time to do it. Sometimes you just forget. It happens. It's no reason to get pissy with me. I'm not going to judge you. Every once in a while when you update ATGs the updates don't take. But she didn't want to hear about that. I even told her I was just asking in case that had happened. But NOOOO she's not hearing anything about that.

Anyway she is beginning to really PISS ME OFF! My perfectly good day is going to shit because of her. I'm having trouble dealing with it. I can be perfectly professional and work fine with people I don't like and them think I like them just fine. She needs to learn how to be a professional and leave that attitude of hers in the lobby, or better yet AT HOME!

How bad can it Get?

I think my character in the current DnD game just got screwed. She's a 7th level gestalted warmage/fighter elf. She rocks.
Well, when we played Saturday night we were invited to a masquerade ball. Well, I decided to have a little fun. she went as a belly dancer. She danced the night away with lots of guys, then the group was invited to a private audience with the head dude. She pulled two cards from the Deck of Many Things. This didn't go nearly as bad as it could have. She ended up with a -1 to her saves, and the answer to her next delima. All she has to do is HAVE a real delima to get a solution too.
And then the group was sent straight to Ravenloft. With her weapons and a belly dancer costume. For those of you who don't know, Ravenloft is an Evil plane. This will be FUN.
I found this article on the Student Printz website this evening. It's kinda neat to know I could take Belly Dancing at the payne Center if I joined. I would love to take the class, I just don't know about joining the Payne Center. I have been a member in the past and not worked out. Of course, this would be kinda fun.
Of course, I'm also a bit scared. Most of the people there have probably been coming to the class since it started. And I would be coming in half-way through the semester. I might wait and see how it is after Christmas. There would be more new people there then. And there wouldn't be quite as big a possibility of me taking someone else's place. I would hate to start going now and cause someone who has been going to miss. And I would be in better shape (I hope) by then.

Are you a Rebel or a Yankee?

100% Dixie. Is General Lee your grandfather?!

My sister sent me this quiz this afternoon. It only takes a few minutes, and it's a TRIP! Take it and post how you do in a comment!

There is also an Advanced test that you can take. I scored 100% on it too!

Man of the Year

I went to see Man of the Year with some friends tonight. It was a very good movie and I really enjoyed it. It wasn't what I expected though.

I went with the hubbie, a couple of our firends, the owner of our local gaming store and his lady, and someone else from there. While everyone seemed to enjoy the movie, everyone did have problems with it.

I don't want to go much into the movie and spoil it for anyone else. But, I will say that while funny it was a serious film. Robin Williams' serious films have never been his best. However, I think he found a great median this time. He was able to be successfully serious in a film because he was also allowed to be funny. This was a very real film in my opinion.\

There were also a couple of good previews tonight too. We saw the preview for the new CIA movie. It looks pretty good, but I will wait for it to come out on DVD. I will possibly go see Children of Men in the theatre though. I'm just not one hundred percent sure that I want to spend that kind of money on the movie. I think it will be a perfectly fine rental movie. But I have a feeling all of our friends are going to want us to go see it with them. We'll see what happens!

Not So Great Day

Today hasn't been too great. It started out decently. I didn't want to get out of bed, but I did. I even ate breakfast this morning. Joe sent me some suggestions on my program. With a little more work (just syntax) we got it done and I submitted it. So I should soon be back to an A average in my programming course.
Unfortunately, I got sick after lunch and had to come home. That sucked. And I didn't do very well on my accounting test tonight. I felt fairly confident when I left the apartment. But I guess since I was feeling bad my brain just refused to process everything properly.
At least I'm starting to feel better now! Even if I still don't feel great....

The Day I Almost Committed Seppeku

Yesterday morning SUCKED! I didn't sleep well the night before and had to get up early.
Josh and I had to report to the apt. people that our AC had leaked, and probably had for a couple of weeks. They guy wanted to know why we hadn't reported it sooner. Well, the honest answer, and the one we gave him, is that it has leaked into the carpet of a closet that we only use of storage. We didn't realize it was leaking until it got on out into the bedroom where we stepped into very wet carpet. I wanted to tell him that I don't ordinarily step into tiny closets to see if the carpet is wet for any reason. Should I start checking every square inch of carpet daily for water? But I was a good girl and kept my mouth shut!
We went and dropped my car off at the bod shop. That went really well. We didn't have any trouble getting there, and it took all of two minutes for the guy to write my name on a tag and put it on my keyring. He even remembered my name (it was over a month ago that I got the estimate done!).
Josh dropped me off at work, no trouble getting back across town in time, and I left a message for the guy at Shelter Insurance to set up my rental car with Enterprise. I know I should have done that last week, but, well....I didn't! he called me back about 30 minutes later and told me to call Enterprise and they would take care of anything. Well, he gave me the wrong phone number. 40 minutes later I get in touch with Enterprise and we do all the paperwork over the phone. We set up for them to deliver the car to me a work. They told me it would be an hour. Of course, they also had to have a copy of the proof of insurance on my car (not stuff from the insurance company that is paying for the rental car). Well, since I've already dropped my car off at the shop I don't exactly have that!!! So I walk to my apartment to see if I can find a copy. Well I didn't find a copy of mine, but I did find a copy of Josh's proof. On my way back to work I call and the guy at our insurance company takes my name and fax number and says he will fax me the proof of insurance.
Well, once I get back to the office I discover that the fax machine is having problems. After about ten minutes of frustrating work, I manage to get it to print out the waiting fax. Which says that they couldn't find the account and they need me to call them with a policy number. Well, their phone was busy for the next 15 minutes. So I fax them the info. Then manage to get them on the phone ten minutes later. They find the policy (it was in my husband's name) and fax me the proof. Then I sit on pins and needles for another hour waiting through my lunch break for the damn rental to show up.

Needless to say yesterday was NOT my day. But today will be better!

Are you a Werewolf?

We went to the Gamer Sanctuary last night and the game of choice was Are you aWerewolf. It requires at least 9 people. Everyone sits in a circle and everyone gets a card. The card tells you your role in the game. The possibilities are Moderator, Werewolf, Seer, and Villager.
The Moderator does the obvious. He is the narrator of the story. He sets the scene, then tells the major events.
The Werewolves get to kill one villager every night. While everyone is asleep they point out who they will kill to the moderator.
The Seer gets a vision after the werewolves have chosen their kill. They get to silently ask the moderator if one person is a werewolf each turn.
Each morning the moderator tells who has died during the night. Then everyone discusses who they will lynch for the killing. A majority vote is required to lynch anyone. Then the moderator tells if a villager, the seer, or a werewolf was lynched. This continues until either the villagers all die or the werewolves are all lynched.

I was narrator for one game, but I was a villager for the rest. I think I freaked out Thomasina during one of the games. I was sitting next to Greg, her honey and the store owner. I forget how it started, but I said something about sleeping beside him. That was a fun game because she freaked out!!! I ended up getting her lynched. It was great fun though. She moved across the circle after that and sat next to him for the rest of the evening. I do hope she was just playing around too and didn't take that too seriously. I don't know her well enough to tell. But I was very surprised by her reaction. I had a lot of fun playing moderator too. I made everyone sleep in the tavern the first night. And someone died in their midst. I will play again sometime, but I hope I get a chance at playing the werewolf. I think that would be great fun!

Work Stuff

Ok, I'm only gonna talk about one work stuff, that that's ok. I'm getting a newer laptop!!! I kinda wish I were getting a NEW one, but this will have to do. It's an IBM R51. I'm not sure exactly how old it is, or how long the warranty has left. But that's ok too.
There are two sucky things about this laptop. The first is that I don't have a docking station for it, and I won't. but that's the worst of it. The other thing is that I will only have one power cord. But that's ok too. It was a nice luxury having a power cord for work AND one for home will it lasted with the dell. But that's ok. I can live without that.
There are a couple of good things. The first is that this laptop has a slightly faster processor. The other is that it has a nicer graphics card. I've been wanting to go to 1400x1050 for my resolution, but the Dell couldn't support that. AND this laptop has an 802.11G wireless card. That won't necessarily make for a faster wireless connection at work (although it is right now) but it will make a major difference at home.
When one of my coworkers has time I'm going to get him to check out the warranty for me. I would like to know the details on it. I know the warranty on the Dell goes out in February.
So, I just wanted to let the world know that I am now on my 8th, I think although I might have forgotten one and it could be 9th, used work computer. One day I might even be lucky enough to get a brand new one. But I'll probably have to work here for a little longer before that happens.

Foot Doctor

Ok, Dr. Suyon Rhee, the foot doctor, was kinda cool. She's a cute doctor. After the trouble with no one else being able to decide anything she was a decided relief. Her nurse had inspected the spot on my foot and decided it was a callus. So, I sit around waiting for Dr. Rhee to come in. and she takes a quick look and tells me that it is a blister. I have a couple of prescriptions to get filled today and hopefully in a few weeks my trouble will be completely gone!!!

Coworkers Concern

One of my coworkers sent me an IM earlier today to make sure everything was ok. He said I hadn't seemed happy the last few weeks. I didn't realize I had let Jan have that much of an effect on me. I told him that there wasn't anything really wrong. Other than her attitude. He said ok.

I was kinda glad he asked. It was really sweet and made my day! Thanks Nicholas!

Coworkers, Sinus Infections, and Crushes

You know, I'm not sure I would think of these having mush to do with one another on a regular day. However, that seems to encapsulate my day fairly well.
My coworker isn't much better today. I've decided that her problem with me has nothing whatsoever to do with me at all. (Ok, maybe a little...) She generally doesn't speak up, so when the lobby of our office is full it's hard for people to hear her. Since she just repeats herself without getting much louder people have a tendancy to ignore her and wait for me to help them. (O-kay, that and the fact that I probably have a smile on my face.)
I have decided that my sickness over the weekend can be attributed to the start of a sinus infection. I've paid more attention to my symptoms today. I'm sneezing a lot, my headache is focused around my sinuses, and my few coughing spells feel like they are caused more by sinus drainage that anything else. I finally went and picked up some cheapo sinus meds from the university pharmacy about an hour ago. I'm not feeling much better though. (And yes, I did take a dose!)
As for crushes, it appears that a university student might have a crush on me. He had previously asked me to put my e-mail and phone number into his treo so he could call me later for some help with a computer issue. I only put in my gmail account. I'm not giving my phone number out to random guys (especially not assholes). So he comes into the office today for something that is actually related to my job, and asked why I never replied to his e-mail. I said I never received one from him. To be honest, I might have and deleted it thinking it was some of the spam that has started getting through the filter. But I didn't purposefully delete one to avoid him or anything. Anyway, he gave me his business card (manager of a liquor store I've NEVER heard of) and both of his e-mail addresses. Told me to e-mail him when I would be available for lunch. When I asked him what he needed help with, and he just told me to e-mail him. I would be amused and flattered, but he's an asshole. And I know because I took a class with him. NO ONE in the class liked him...

Work Problems

I know I posted the other day about one of my coworkers not wanting to talk to me. I've been waiting around since then hoping that she would snap out of whatever her funk is. Good thing I haven't been holding my breath.
I went so far as to ask yesterday if anything was wrong. She said no.
But I can't help but think that I've done something to bother her, even though I can't think of anything. I come into work and try to give 150% to my job. I make a point to do my job to the best of my ability, and I try to do more. I try to make sure that everyone in the office has everything they need to do their jobs well. And I try to make sure that my boss remembers everything that we need.
She's been a little better today. A couple of times she has even answered my questions at something approaching a normal volume. But she still isn't saying more that absolutely necessary to answer my questions. She isn't really responding to my efforts to involve her. But she sure will talk and joke a little with some of the other people in the office. I heard her picking on a couple of the techs earlier.
But after the bossman asked me a couple of questions earlier that I answered (and that she could have easily put her input into without seeming to butt in or be an ass) I saw her pass him a couple of dirty looks when he wasn't paying attention. I know that she isn't particularly happy with him being the boss. She kinda wanted to be the boss, or at least keep our previous one. And I know that she isn't particularly happy with her job (and is semi looking for a new one). But why is she treating me this way? Why won't she just tell me what I've done to make her try to ignore me to the best of her ability? It's not exaclty comfortable to work in an office where the only other female apparently hates you. I know, because that is how she has been making me feel. And I think it's starting to affect my performance. I hope she snaps out of this soon. Because if she is still this way next week, I will have to talk to the bossman about it. Robin might not want to have to deal with a disgruntled employee, especially one as obvious about it as her, but it has to be dealt with eventually. And the sooner the better.

HNT

When I was growing up, and even while I was still a full-time college student, all my friends shared the same religious beliefs. We would disagree on some points, but we were all protestants. I find that since I've grown up this is no longer the case. There are a couple of protestants, a couple of Catholics, and a lot of other random stuff in the mix now.

Above is the tattoo that the biologist in our group got several months ago (as noted by the date on the picture). There is actually a funny story about my husband and this tattoo that I might share one day. Especially if I can manage to get a new picture of the tattoo!

Bad Service, Bad Product

These two don't always go hand in hand. However they did today. I've been craving a hazelnut mocha from Java City for a few days now, and just haven't had a chance to get out of the office and go get one. (Unfortunately their hours are 7:30-2 M-F.) Well, the bossman had something that had to go to the post office this morning. I decided that this would be my opportunity. I had a legitimate excuse to be on that side of campus.

I wish this hadn't happened.

It wasn't Ms. Frances running the shop when I stopped by, it was some college chick. She was slower than Christmas. You know, the one next century... She cleaned some stuff from the previous customer after taking my order, but before making my order. Needless to say she forgot what I wanted. Then, she couldn't remember it again hallf-way through making it. Then she didn't mix the chocolate milk up good enough. She mixed it up JUST enough to make it all taste nasty.

I know she might have been new or something, but really. There are pictures up there for EVERYTHING! A monkey could have made me a better mocha. The only thing she got right was the amount of hazelnut flavoring to put in. Next time I want one I will go somewhere else if Ms. Frances isn't working.

Jeff Dunham

Last time we visited my parents we watched a video of comedian Jeff Dunham. While ventriloquist have never really been my cup of tea, this guy was GREAT. He has a couple of characters that will crack you up.
One of my favorites is Walter. He's a grumpy old men, as so many are prone to being. Take his quiz here and see how you stand up to him.
My other is Peanut. He's a trip. You can find out about him and Jose on Dunham's site. Check it out...pick up the DVD...get some great laughs!!!!

Work, Not Bliss

Work has been going pretty good for the last few weeks. It was going from busy to absolutely nothing, but that's normal for this time of year. I can generally handle that fairly well.
It's really the coworkers that make my job Heaven or Hell. Well, today it isn't heavenly bliss. One of my coworkers has went into the bitchy 'I'm not talking to Cory' phase again. She had been that way for a few weeks a while back, but for the last couple of weeks she's been real friendly and talking to me and everything. I don't think she has said three full sentences to me today. She is generally ignoring me when possible. And when not possible. I would think it's something with me except that everyone else in the office is treating me the same way they always do. And I don't recall doing anything to her....I think it's just her bitchy self. But I wish she would quit it. I leave my bitch side at home, or at least outside the office.
At least Robin acknowledged it to me this afternoon. He told me to let him know if things don't change. But I really hope she will be back to her friendly self tomorrow.

Thai Coup - Great Statements

The Thai coup, as reported by Wikinews, included a great statement.
The army's tv statement included 'our apologies for any inconvenience.' This is not something one expects to hear during a military coup. This is definitely a story to follow...

Wonderful...Simply Wonderful

Limewire has sued the RIAA. This is great all on it's one, but the comments to the article on TechDirt are priceless. Some of them will make you laugh your ass off. And some of the simple statements can be applied really well to other situations.
Take a minute to read them, after reading my application of one such statement.

Situation: The campus wireless network
Statement: "Infrastructure does not imply intent."

Thanks to Bob for the fantastic quote.

A Week With Friends...

Ok...this isn't a whole week, but it's been a lot.
Usually during the week Josh and I keep mostly to ourselves outside of work. But this week has been different. I just haven't had a lot of time to myself, but that's ok.
Tuesday night Chuck wanted to borrow the washer and dryer, so he and Stimpy hung out for most of the evening. Josh and Chuck played a few games of Magic.
Thursday night (I think Thursday. Could be wrong...) Chris was in town, and he, Chuck, and Stimpy hung out with us for a good sized chunck of the evening. Josh and Chris played Magic while the rest of us played a few games of Tsuro (sp?). It's a quick and fun game where you place tiles on a board to create a path and attempt to die a pretty death. Then Chuck wanted to go back to his place so he could play Yakuza, so Stimpy, Josh and I watched Life is Beautiful, at least, I think that was it.
Friday night we (being Chuck, Chris, Stimpy, Joe L, Josh and I) ate at Longhorn and went to see Fearless.
And today we still decided to spend time with them, yet again. We met for lunch, then went our separate ways...only to meet up at The Gamer Sanctuary for the evening. It's the first time Josh and I have hung out there for any real length of time. We usually just stop in to see if they have something we are looking for and leave. Tonigt I played a couple of games of Tsuro (I even won a game!!!). Josh played some Tsuro and some Magic. I watch part of a game of Robo Ralley. I might play that if it starts up when I'm around again. It looked fun, although I would probably get myself killed alot.

As much as I enjoy hanging out with our friends, I hope we stay to ourselves tomorrow. I need some serious quiet time before next week rolls around. I have some homework to start on and a book to finish!

>>>Edit: Please allow me to apologize profusely for my mixup in this post. It was Joe B, not Joe L, that attended Friday night's festivities. Amazing how easy it is to mix up letters when not fully conscious.

New Friends

I put a couple more links on my blogs lists to the side. I've been reading TC for a few weeks now and she cracks me up sometimes. She recently redesigned her blog, so you should you check out what she's done.
My other entry is Niassne. I've been a friend of his for a little while, and found out last night that he had started a blog. Needless to say, I simply HAD to check it out the first chance I really got today. I skimmed through what he had, and found some amusing posts. I'm not at all surprised, he's a pretty funny guy.
If I'm not careful, all my web browsing will end up planned because my list of must visit sites will get so long!

One day in class the teacher brought a bag full of fruit. "Now class, I'm going to reach into the bag and describe a piece of fruit, and you tell what fruit I'm talking about. Okay, first: it's round, plump and red."

Of course, Johnny raised his hand high, but the teacher, wisely ignored him and picked Deborah, who promptly answered "An apple." The teacher replied, "No Deborah, it's a beet, but I like your thinking." Now for the second. It's soft, fuzzy, and colored red and brownish."

Well, Johnny is hopping up and down in his seat trying to get the teacher to call on him. But she skips him again and calls on Billy. "Is it a peach?" Billy asks. "No, Billy, I'm afraid it's a potato. But I like your thinking," the teacher replies. Here's another: it's long, yellow, and fairly hard."

By now Johnny is about to explode as he waves his hand frantically. The teacher skips him again and calls on Sally. "A banana," she says. "No," the teacher replies, "it's a squash, but I like your thinking."

Johnny is kind of irritated now, so he speaks up loudly. "Hey, I've got one for you teacher; let me put my hand in my pocket. Okay, I've got it: it's round, hard, and it got a head on it." "Johnny!" she cries. "That's disgusting!" "Nope," answers Johnny, "it's a quarter, but I like your thinking!"

I'm Gonna Be An Aunt Again!!!

My sister found out Monday that she is having a little girl again. We're excited. And Ashleigh is thrilled, I think. She has been asking for a little sister. She didn't take up with the idea of a little brother, or at least, that's what Momma told me last night.

Momma is doing really well a little over a week after her knee replacement. She is currently in the intensive physical therapy wing of the hospital. She is hoping to go home sometime Friday.

Work is starting to slack off, finally. I'm glad about that. Our afternoons are still really busy here though. But at least they aren't as bad anymore.

I have my first accounting test tonight. I have the review sheet filled out, so I'll start studying it sometime today. I think it will be fairly easy, although I don't expect as good a grade this semester as last. This stuff is a little more confusing.

Our office is closing for a while this afternoon to attend the University's Fall Convocation. From everything I've heard, it seems like it will be more informal this time around. They are usually just a series of speakers for an hour or so. I'll post any interesting University news later tonight or tomorrow.

Bad Girl

I know...I've been a bad girl. I just haven't had time to post lately. We're under our Fall rush at work, so I've been putting in some major hours. And once that cleared up, I was already behind on my school work. :) If it's not one thing it's another.
The rush is clearing up a little bit, at least enough for me to catch up on my schoolwork. So hopefully I will be around here a little more.
Last week, or the week before...I'm not really sure, I actually managed to get a couple of full nights sleep. To bad that after two night I reverted back to my trouble. But hopefully with time my doctor and I will get this worked out.
Josh and I watched a few movies this weekend.
The first was Flight Plan. I really enjoyed it, of course, I'm a fan. Of course I enjoyed it. :) Josh said it took to long for them to give you the clues. However, I think this was intended. For the first portion of the movie you felt like her.
The second movie was The Protector. I really enjoyed this movie as well. However, while it is a martial arts film, I expected more plot stuff for some reason. The movie was less than 90 minutes. And was Very good.
The last movie was The Libertine. I didn't really enjoy this one very much. I had no clue what it was going to be about, and Josh thought it would have sword fights. Instead there was an orgy. While that was somewhat interesting, I felt the entire movie left something to be desired. Johnnie did stuid stuff, and the film was very dark, making it hard to see what was going on.
I guess overall it was a good weekend. I finished my homework in time, and now I just have to manage not to get behind again. I have done my first program for Visual Basic, although it was as simple as a Word document. I am now preparing myself for the next one, which will be harder.
I will be kicking back into gear on my workout routine this week. I was sick last week and didn't work out. And I'm thinking of trying the Special K diet just to kick start my weight loss. I'll let you know any final decisions in regards to that.

A rather old fashioned lady, always quite delicate and elegant, especially in her language, was planning a weeks holiday in Sydney with her husband, so she wrote to a particular camping ground and asked for a reservation.

She wanted to make sure that the camping ground was fully equipped, but didn't know quite how to ask about the toilet facilities. She just couldn't bring herself
to write the word "toilet" in her letter.

After much thought, she finally came up with the old fashioned term "Bathroom closet" but when she wrote it down, she still thought she was being too forward, so she started all over again, rewrote the letter, and referred to the bathroom closet as the B.C.

"Does the camping ground have it's own B.C." is what she wrote.

Well, the camping ground owner wasn't a bit old fashioned, and he just couldn't figure out what the old lady was talking about, so he showed the letter around a few of the campers and the only thing they could come up with was that B.C. stood for Baptist Church, so he wrote the following reply.

Dear Madam,

I regret very much the delay in answering your letter, but I now take the pleasure of informing you that a B.C. is located nine miles north of our camping ground, and is capable of seating 250 people at one time.

I admit that it is quite a distance away if you are in the habit of going regularly but no doubt you will be pleased to know that a great number of campers go there and many take their lunches along and make a day of it. They usually arrive nice and early and stay quite late.

The last time my wife and I went was six years ago, and it was so crowded we had to stand up the whole time we were there. It may interest you to know that there is a special supper planned there to raise money to buy more seats so that everyone will be able to sit in comfort.

I would like to say that it pains me very much not to be able to go more regularly, but it is surely no lack of desire on my part, just that I am so busy most of the time.

As we grow older, it seems to be more of an effort to go, especially in the cold weather. If you decide to come down to our camping ground perhaps I could go with you the first time you go, sit with you and introduce you to all the other folks.

Family Time!

We went to visit my parents this weekend. Daddy's birthday is Wednesday. We both, my sister and I, forgot presents for my father. Jackie just left it at home. I hadn't even gotten it yet!!!
So, I went to Wal-Mart last night and picked up a card to mail today. I kinda hope he gets it on Wednesday, but no guarantees. Mail is weird through the USM post office. It sometimes takes longer. Hopefully it won't this week. And I got him a gift card at Tiger Direct. He likes to shop there a lot.
It was a good trip though. Momma took a look at a costume pattern a friend brought me to check out, and gave me some good suggestions for it. If it works out, it'll be affordable. I would just have to put in some extra hours to get it done for Halloween. I got the Carmen Electra Aerobic Striptease video. I'm going to check it out either tonight or tomorrow. I'm kinda excited about it. It will be a fun change. Tonight it is just some more time with Maya.
I also got to just spend some time with Daddy just chatting about random things. I really enjoy doing that because it's something that we don't always get to do.
And Ashleigh was an incredible sweetheart Saturday. She decided to start stacking things in the kitchen. At first it was just a couple of canisters and a box. It later turned into the vegetable oil and the diet pepsi. She was convinced that she was going to stack the 2 liter pepsi on top of the oil. I said, "Baby, I don't think that's gonna work." To which I heard 'It work. It work.' She talks so well to only be a year and a half old. And is incredibly smart, most of the time. Of course, then Momma saw her and took the pepsi right out of her hands. I cracked up. It was just to cute.

Moving South

One of my friends forwarded this to me this afternoon and it brightened up my day. For those of you in the South, you should enjoy!

Dear Diary:

May 30th:
Just moved to Birmingham, Alabama from up North. Now this is a city that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. What a place! Watched the sunset from a park lying on a blanket. It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here.

June 14th:
Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper.

June 30th:
Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th:
The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least it's kind of windy though. But getting used to the heat and humidity is taking longer that I expected.

July 15th:
Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body.) Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 20th:
I missed Morgan (our cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got to the hot car for lunch, Morgan had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stank up the $2,000 leather upholstery. I told the kids that she ran away. The car now smells like Kibbles and shits. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat.

July 25th:
The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the AC repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

July 30th:
Been sleeping outside by the pool for 3 nights now. $1, 500 in damn house payments and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here?

August 4th:
It's 105 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 85, but this freaking humidity makes the house feel like it's about 95. Stupid repairman pissed in my pool. I hate this stupid city.

August 8th:
If another wise ass cracks, "Hot enough for you today?", I'm going to strangle him. Damn heat. By the time I get to work the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

August 9th:
Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts and sat on the black leather seats in the ol' car. I thought my ass was on fire. I lost two layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and ass. Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat.

August 10th:
The weather report might as well be a damn recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do anything for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this damn desert??
Water rationing will be next, so might as well watch $1700 worth of cactus just dry up and blow into the damn pool. Even the cactus can't live in this damn heat.

August 15th:
Welcome to HELL!!! Temperature got to 105 today. Forgot to crack the window and blew the damn windshield out of the car. The installer came to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My wife had to spend the $1500 house payment to bail me out of jail. Freaking South . What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here??

School Expenses

I really don't know how people manage to go to college these days. It's Expensive!
I still paid $355.80, minus supplies, and I don't pay tuition! And tuition for my 2 meesley classes was $1,152.00. Both of my classes are online, so hopefully I won't need much in the way of supplies other than my laptop. I can't help but wonder how people can pay for it. One of the guys that works with me couldn't borrow enough money for school. His parents had to take out loans too. It ridiculous. You would think that public education would be affordable. 7 students' tuition to this place for a year pays my salary. You would think that they would pay us more if they are charging the kids that much. I certainly couldn't afford to take classes if it weren't a fringe benefit.

Sorry, just felt a need to rant after my trip to the bookstore. On the other hand, our new Barnes and Nobles looks pretty cool. I hope to find some time next week to really take a look at it. I might have to skip lunch one day. Admittantly, it looks like a BnN, but I won't to see all the new stuff that they have in now that they actually have a little room!

Thought of the Day

We need anything politically important rationed out like Pez: small, sweet, and coming out of a funny, plastic head.
- Dennis Miller

I admit to taking this from my personalized google homepage. But as everyone doesn't have one of those, I wanted to share the thought. It just made perfect sense to me today.

Not a Wonderful Time

Yesterday afternoon and today haven't been too great.
A lady at the apartment complex backed into my car today. She ran off before I could get her insurance information, but she told me she would get it to me. Hopefully that will happen today.
I'm about to leave work to go to the body shop to get an estimate, then see if I can find her. I'm 95% positive that she is one of the ladies that works in the realty office, which is right in front of my apartment. Hopefully I can get most of this handled today.
At least I should get a paintjob out of the deal. And considering someone has keyed my car in the past, that's pretty good. They will quite possibly have to replace the driver's side door, leaving me only one original door on this car. And I haven't even had an accident that was my fault!

08 August 2006

I should have called in dead after lunch. It was a BITCH. I got slammed, and the phones got slammed. So the boss comes up on me about that while I'm with the VERY LAST of my in person customers, so he's tiffed with me about the phones getting backed up. OR, at least, it feels that way. It could just be the depression thing again. I have been slightly paranoid lately. I'll admit it.
And I almost did call in dead. I think it was Chuck's suggestion...(Lunch is slightly fuzzy. Must be the water...) But I decided not to.

Shaun was late again coming in. He called and got me at a few minutes before 11 and said he had forgotten to set his alarm clock again. It's been a few weeks since the last time, maybe he'll be around through the Fall Rush anyway.

Our new bookstore will hopefully open tomorrow. Hopefully. I can start buying books on Thursday. I'm going to be sure to be in the 2 weeks before classes start just in case a class gets cancelled. I don't want to be stuck with books I can't use. And I want to get in the new bookstore early too. I want to see if before it gets full of kids. It's supposed to be nice.

New Pet

Yes...I'm dumb enough to get a virtual pet. I saw one on somebody's blog and clicked the link. Then I decided to make one just for the hell of it.
Mr. Tadakeichi is the name of Chiyo-chan's big dog in Azumanga Diao. One of these days I will finish that series. It's very funny.

Today has been something of a boring day. iTech has a new word. Sekecting. I'm not exactly sure what this means. It might be a synonym for selecting. Or it might be a way of cussing out students without their knowledge. I'm not really sure.

Well, now it's almost five and time for me to go home. I'll be counting down for the next three minutes. Three minutes to life...

03 August 2006

You KNOW it's been a long day...

...when you put the dial tone on hold.

01 August 2006

Smokers

I don't have anything against smokers in general, I PROMISE! I have several friends that are fairly heavy smokers. I'll even stand around talking to them while they are smoking. It really doesn't bother me at all.
What does bother me is someone who smells strongly enough of cigarettes to nearly knock me off my chair from ACROSS the counter. I've stuck my nose in full ashtrays that didn't smell as bad as the guy that was just in my office. I have a headache from just being in his presence for a minute and a half.
How can people stand to smell like that all the time. Have they never heard of taking a bath?!? I actually prefer someone with terribly strong cologne to the STRONG smell of cigarettes...

30 July 2006

Disappointment

I was eagerly awaiting having the money to pick up Patricia Cornwell's new novella At Risk. I shouldn't have bothered. I was disappointed that it came from one of my favorite authors. While it does have some interesting points in it, it isn't her usual caliber of work. If you just HAVE to read this book, go to your local library or borrow it from me. I hope she comes up out with a new, better novel soon. It doesn't have to be a Scarpetta novel to interest me, it just has to be good.

I should have saved my money for Dragon's Fire, the new Pern novel by Anne McCaffrey and Todd McCaffrey. It's a sequel to their first collaboration and is bound to be terrific. I've never read a Pern novel I didn't love. It hasn't been out long, maybe BAM has it marked cheap...

I found out this weekend that a movie is coming out based on one of my favorite books, Eragon. It comes out December 15. I'm almost scared that they will have ruined it. While they did well and used an unknown in the title role, there are several names in it that I recognized. Ok, so I only recognized the name of Jeremy Irons. When I started checking out filmographies I recognized some of these people. So, it has a decent cast. The question is, have they pulled off a good adaptation, or have they ruined the first novel by one of my now favorite authors. And when is Christopher going to release the end of the trilogy?!? Can't he see that we are all impatient and want to know what happens next???

27 July 2006

One More Day!!!

Yes, it is only one more day til weekend. I'm thrilled. I think I can survive Friday.
I think I did fairly well on my final last night. I won't say that I made an A on the final, but I definitely did well enough to manage an A in the course.
I bought a ProBodX book today for a dollar. It seems pretty interesting. I might have to consider getting some of the equipment as I have money to spend. I spent part of the afternoon ready about the results and how it works. It really seemed like it might be very beneficial to me because of my back problems.
Well, I'm off for the day. Time to go home for the nap I've been wanting all afternoon...and to see Josh's new monitor.

26 July 2006

Frowny Faces All Around

I took my Calculus final last night. And I waited the forever until she had our grades ready. Lots of people gave up on that front.
I made an 80 on the final. :( I think she was disappointed that the grades were so low. I know I wasn't exactly thrilled with my grade. Several of us that were really hoping for an A didn't make it. But at least it's over. I just hope everyone managed a C. Or they're screwed and have to take it again. We all had to have a C in it because of our major.
Tonight is the Accounting final. I'm as ready as I intend to be. I'm not worried about doing incredibly well. I'll easily manage the required 48 for an A.

On a completely different note, I think I'm doing ok with the Effexor. I had a complete of small panic attacks yesterday, but none today. Hopefully it will stay that way. If I have one tomorrow I will go back to the doctor. Well, if I have another one period I'll go back. Especially since I wasn't having them to begin with.

I'll let everyone know how tonight's test goes. Although it will be nearly two weeks before I have a grade for it.

25 July 2006

It's only Tuesday, but WHAT A WEEK!!!

Ok. I've had a killer beginning of a week. And I haven't even taken any of my finals yet.
I went to the doctor yesterday morning because I'd been feeling all around yucky for a while. He asked questions, did tests, and promptly decided that I have an anxiety disorder. Wonderful. Talk about a great way to start the week...So he gave me some meds to start taking, told me to come back in a week, and to have an assessment done.
Then, as soon as I get back to the office my phone is ringing. Another of my tests have come back. He wants me to do a fasting glucose test when I go back. WOW...more wonderful news.
This morning I went to the Counseling Center for my assessment. After waiting forever and getting fidgety in the small crowded waiting room someone comes to get me. She asks a lot of questions and says some stuff. Then pulls out the BDI. For those who don't know, that's the Beck Depression Inventory. I spend some time filling it out and after some bad math we both agree that I have scored a 29.
Ok, this might sound bad or good to some of you, depending on the orientation. Well, I wasn't sure I felt so good about this. After pulling out her score card we discover that I apparently have borderline moderate/severe depression. She said that 30 is severe.
Now, that's what I'm talking about! That's the way to start my week of finals. At least I have discovered that I will be happy with a 63 on my calculus final and a 43 on my Accounting final. That would give me a B and an A for summer.

19 July 2006

Hello World

I'm having a good day. I'm not really sure why today is such a great day, but nothing terrible has happened yet.
Ms. Bell broke her own record last night. She came to class 45 minutes after the bell. Somehow I had a feeling she would break it. It had previously been 35 minutes.
We recieved our test grades. While there were still 5 Fs, she said that the grades were good. I made a 96. I'm rather proud of myself. I need an 87 on the final to get an A for the semester.
Mr. Moody still hasn't posted grades for the last accounting test. I'm trying to wait patiently. I have finished the homework for the semester. I think that is a major accomplishment.
I've started trying to figure out a schedule for finishing my degree. At 6 hours a semester, it's kinda strange. I'be figured out that it will probably be Dec. 2012 when I graduate. If I can get the classes when I want them. The later semesters have more electives because the classes just don't fit into my work schedule. Which is kinda funny because I already have plenty of electives. I'm hoping for the degree program to just take off and the courses start being offered so they fit my schedule better.
Work has been pretty quiet today. We've had some busy moments, but nothing nerveracking. Hopefully the afternoon will stay that way.
I also got my scholarship form back from the boss lady. I'll be putting it in the mail tomorrow. YAY! My scholarship stuff will be finished for the fall.
Hmm, I can't think of anything else right now. Except maybe that I have nothing pressing that has to be done tonight. Other than laundry. But that doesn't really put any pressure on my time.

17 July 2006

Bank Officers from Hell

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my bank. It has it's slight problems, but nothing too terribly major. And it's hard to beat free checking. But sometimes you just realize that the bank people are only here to make your life difficult.
After Josh and I got married we put his name on my checking account. I already have free checking. And my pay check was already direct deposit into that account. And I had a couple of payments on draft.
Well, we ordered debit cards and checks when we changed everything else. We recieved the debit cards, but never the checks. Well, I finally got a chance to check on that. Apparently they were returned to the company. And no one thought to call to say 'Hey, these were returned.'
Then, she goes to place another order. She couldn't look at one screen, see it was different from the other, and change it. Or even notice that it was different. Completely and totally useless. AND she looked like she had went on a bender last night. She was a bit glassy eyed. And slower than Christmas.
Nothing personal against the bank, but that isn't exactly the kind of person I want to see handling my accounts. There's no telling what wrong thing she will do!

Pirates

Josh and I went to see Pirates of the Caribean Dead Man's Chest yesterday. It was a pretty good movie. Definitely worth seeing. For those considering see the movie in the theatre, a good choice, there is an after credits. However, it's nothing that great. Especially considering how long the credits are. Actually, you think about the after credits shot during the movie. Or, at least, I did.
Josh describes this movie in a simple phrase. The Empire Strikes Back. After you watch the movie, ESPECIALLY if you saw the first one, you will probably understand the reference. However, I can't tell you. That would ruin the movie. So, GO SEE IT!!!

14 July 2006

Company!!!

We're having company over tonight. The other married couple in our group, Joe and Lynn, are coming to visit. Joe is supposed to help Josh make a Magic deck. I wish them fun.
On the other hand, I hope I can stay awake. I was up at 5 this morning to get the apartment cleaned and start on supper. I found a recipe for roast beef sandwiches. I picked up the roast and stuff last night and put it all in the crockpot this morning. I hope it's good. I even went to Wal-Mart before 6 this morning when I realized that we didn't have any Soy Sauce!
Jan, the other 2nd level tech at work, has been moved up to the front counter to work with me. I'm not terribly sure how well this is going to work. Because she is pissed to have been moved up here. And I'm obviously not someone anyone wants to work with. She's the 7th person to share the front counter with me this year. And it's only July. I was going for a record number on people, but I think Robin wanted to put an end to that! I just hope she gets adjusted to things.
I'll have to take pictures of the apartment tonight now that it is kinda clean. There are still small areas of discord, but that will eventually get cleared up. And there are still a lot of boxes in the back room, but it all looks kinda neat now. I'll try to post those next week.
My goal for the morning got a good start. I wasn't really planning to finish it before lunch, so I'm happy to have gotten almost done. I'm putting together a package, complete with detailed instructions, on spyware removal for our students at the University. This way they can do this work themselves. They all need to learn it anyway. I wrote up detailed instructions for 8 pieces of software. Complete for installation and use. I even did pictures for some of it. If they can't do this, they have major problems and probably shouldn't have made it into college.
We'll possibly be going to see Pirates this weekend. Our friend Shaphan was apparently going to ask us to his house for movies and Magic, but we already had the plans with Joe. Including me cooking. But they want to see the movie tomorrow. And I guess now that Shaphan has gotten paid he and Dee have the money to take the kids to a movie. I'm sure it'll be fun, and it's supposedly a really good movie...
One of the couples in my department at work are having a baby in September. There shower is coming up. I'm going shopping tomorrow to get gifts. I'm not sure what I want to get them. I'll probably go for a combination of stuff they registered for and some other misc. stuff. But I'm sure I'll have fun shopping for them. And deciding what to buy for my new neice or nephew! :)

11 July 2006

Staff Council

Well, I'm finally involved in something at work. Today I have my first Staff Council meeting. I'm both excited and scared. Kinda funny, huh? I'm scared I won't do well on it. There are at least two other people from my department on the council. I find that amusing. And that's out of the new members. I don't know if there are any existing ones. I'm leaving in about 35 minutes to go to the orientation session. And I won't even be back to my counter until after lunch. Except to clock out for lunch. I'm not sure if that even really counts. It'll just be in and out.

Josh has his interview this morning. He left the apartment early and was heading over to his parents. He was going to call the lady about his interview from there. Then sit around their house until he had to leave. Lucky prick isn't even going into work until after lunch. I hope he does well on his interview. He looks nice anyway!

Grant, one of my coworkers, had a birthday on Saturday. We got him a cake and card yesterday. He turned 23 this year. And, the quote from the birthday boy 'One step closer to the grave.'

10 July 2006

YAY!!!

Ok...I know I've been a bad blogger, but it's been a very busy few days. But, I dont' want to talk about that. There are other very good things.
JOSH HAS A JOB INTERVIEW!!!
He's been applying for jobs in the area as they have appeared, but hasn't had any luck so far. His resume was handed in this morning for this job, and he was called just after lunch. He has an interview first thing in the morning. And they say they are really in a bind and need someone immediately. They did say that if he HAD to provide a weeks notice for his current job, they would let him work at night for a week. Which would be really good so that he could always have SMBM as a good reference. And there's also rumor that they would be willing to pay $31,000! That's a WOW. We might could buy a house around Christmas with that and settle halfway between our jobs. It would be kinda nice to have a house. And not have to worry quite so much about paying for school books.
OOOO, this is a good day! I can't wait to see how good tomorrow is.

29 June 2006

Work....

Sometimes I hate my job. I have once again lost the person I trained for the front desk. I get someone good and trained, and they are taken away. Today makes 5. Since Christmas. They took Brandi away and gave me Vicki. They took Vicki away (thank God!) and gave me Thomas. They took Thomas away and gave me Nick2. They took Nick2 away and gave me Michelle. I wonder who is next...
I never have anyone very long, and they leave me alone for so long it's not even funny. I wonder what I will do next week during Preview. And who will cover my lunches now? And what happens if I get busy at some other odd time? This is getting ridiculous. I just hope that Robin moves someone up here soon. Not only does it suck if I get busy, but I get lonely too. I guess I'll have to used to that again....

26 June 2006

Farewell To Scary Backpack Guy

Brandi had already told me that Bruce had passed away earlier this month. I never really expected the following update on the situation.

As you all now know, Bruce Lefferts (the scary backpack guy) died. You may recall that Bruce used duct tape on his backpack (and everything else) quite liberally.

A report from his graveside service at the VA in Biloxi: The chaplain had 15 minutes to conduct the graveside. To start the ceremony, he asked all the males in attendance (about 15) to step forward and line either side of the coffin. The chaplain whipped out a roll of duct tape, and the guys passed it back and forth 'til the tape ran out, round and round Bruce's casket. Apparently, most of the graveside was spent wrapping the casket with the tape and laughing with sweet recollections of gentle ole' kooky Bruce.

Now, that's going out in style.

At least my workplace sanity level will not spike quite as much.

This is what Mondays are SUPPOSED to be like

Today hasn't been too bad a day. As a matter of fact, only one bad thing so far. I couldn't find my keys this morning and was a whole 4 minutes late. There are people in this office that are NEVER that early.
The morning kinda flew by. After Michelle got here I went and got some breakfast. (I had trouble sleeping last night, so DEFINTELY no time for breakfast!)
It was nearly 9 before I got around to logging into the Helpdesk phones. That's not too bad because I have the morning round of e-mail and such to deal with. Then, next thing I know, it's 5 til 11. I've been bored all morning, but the time has FLOWN!
I ate lunch at the apt with the honey. That went fine.
I got back from lunch and things hadn't exploded. Just a little catch up work to do. Then back to the slow boringness. I've only had one upset customer and one that couldn't describe her problem properly. But we got through both of those and got off the phone in good moods.
Then I was working on a laptop with some spyware problems. The battery dies. I check again in the bag to see if the cord is there, no cord. So, I call the girl to ask her to bring it. Here is the jist of the converstaion...

Tech: Hi! I've been working on your laptop, but the battery died.
Client: The cord is in the bag.
Tech: Could you tell me where, because I've found your socks...but no-
Client: Oh! I'm sorry. It's right here. I meant to put it in my bag.

Ok. So there was more to the conversation, but not much. That was ten minutes ago and I'm still laughing over it.
Ok. She just brought it in. Definitely a dumb blonde!

I hope the day gets better. At least we have a departmental meeting this afternoon. Those always sport something to laugh about. Even if it isn't really a good laugh.

Interview Thing

1. As a guestimate, how many times are you and J-chan gonna go at it this weekend?
2. What is your favorite anime?
3. What is your favorite manga?
4. How many times, in a week, do you want to strangle me for asking silly questions?
5. If you could be anyone else in the world, who is alive today, who would it be?

1.Uh, maybe a lot. Depends on how much of the time we spend at home.
2.I like Bleach and Chrono Crusade the most I think.
3.Full Metal Panic
4.I never want to strangle you for asking questions.
5.Uh, I don't know that I would want to be anyone else. I'm used to my own problems and eccentricities. I don't feel like getting used to anyone elses!

If anyone else wants to participate, just post a comment asking me to interview you, and I'll post some questions. Then you can answer on your own blog or in my comments! I was interviewed by ruggerchuck.
