Family Time!

We went to visit my parents this weekend. Daddy's birthday is Wednesday. We both, my sister and I, forgot presents for my father. Jackie just left it at home. I hadn't even gotten it yet!!!
So, I went to Wal-Mart last night and picked up a card to mail today. I kinda hope he gets it on Wednesday, but no guarantees. Mail is weird through the USM post office. It sometimes takes longer. Hopefully it won't this week. And I got him a gift card at Tiger Direct. He likes to shop there a lot.
It was a good trip though. Momma took a look at a costume pattern a friend brought me to check out, and gave me some good suggestions for it. If it works out, it'll be affordable. I would just have to put in some extra hours to get it done for Halloween. I got the Carmen Electra Aerobic Striptease video. I'm going to check it out either tonight or tomorrow. I'm kinda excited about it. It will be a fun change. Tonight it is just some more time with Maya.
I also got to just spend some time with Daddy just chatting about random things. I really enjoy doing that because it's something that we don't always get to do.
And Ashleigh was an incredible sweetheart Saturday. She decided to start stacking things in the kitchen. At first it was just a couple of canisters and a box. It later turned into the vegetable oil and the diet pepsi. She was convinced that she was going to stack the 2 liter pepsi on top of the oil. I said, "Baby, I don't think that's gonna work." To which I heard 'It work. It work.' She talks so well to only be a year and a half old. And is incredibly smart, most of the time. Of course, then Momma saw her and took the pepsi right out of her hands. I cracked up. It was just to cute.

Moving South

One of my friends forwarded this to me this afternoon and it brightened up my day. For those of you in the South, you should enjoy!

Dear Diary:

May 30th:
Just moved to Birmingham, Alabama from up North. Now this is a city that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. What a place! Watched the sunset from a park lying on a blanket. It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here.

June 14th:
Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper.

June 30th:
Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th:
The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least it's kind of windy though. But getting used to the heat and humidity is taking longer that I expected.

July 15th:
Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body.) Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 20th:
I missed Morgan (our cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got to the hot car for lunch, Morgan had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stank up the $2,000 leather upholstery. I told the kids that she ran away. The car now smells like Kibbles and shits. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat.

July 25th:
The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the AC repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

July 30th:
Been sleeping outside by the pool for 3 nights now. $1, 500 in damn house payments and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here?

August 4th:
It's 105 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 85, but this freaking humidity makes the house feel like it's about 95. Stupid repairman pissed in my pool. I hate this stupid city.

August 8th:
If another wise ass cracks, "Hot enough for you today?", I'm going to strangle him. Damn heat. By the time I get to work the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

August 9th:
Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts and sat on the black leather seats in the ol' car. I thought my ass was on fire. I lost two layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and ass. Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat.

August 10th:
The weather report might as well be a damn recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do anything for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this damn desert??
Water rationing will be next, so might as well watch $1700 worth of cactus just dry up and blow into the damn pool. Even the cactus can't live in this damn heat.

August 15th:
Welcome to HELL!!! Temperature got to 105 today. Forgot to crack the window and blew the damn windshield out of the car. The installer came to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My wife had to spend the $1500 house payment to bail me out of jail. Freaking South . What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here??

School Expenses

I really don't know how people manage to go to college these days. It's Expensive!
I still paid $355.80, minus supplies, and I don't pay tuition! And tuition for my 2 meesley classes was $1,152.00. Both of my classes are online, so hopefully I won't need much in the way of supplies other than my laptop. I can't help but wonder how people can pay for it. One of the guys that works with me couldn't borrow enough money for school. His parents had to take out loans too. It ridiculous. You would think that public education would be affordable. 7 students' tuition to this place for a year pays my salary. You would think that they would pay us more if they are charging the kids that much. I certainly couldn't afford to take classes if it weren't a fringe benefit.

Sorry, just felt a need to rant after my trip to the bookstore. On the other hand, our new Barnes and Nobles looks pretty cool. I hope to find some time next week to really take a look at it. I might have to skip lunch one day. Admittantly, it looks like a BnN, but I won't to see all the new stuff that they have in now that they actually have a little room!

Thought of the Day

We need anything politically important rationed out like Pez: small, sweet, and coming out of a funny, plastic head.
- Dennis Miller

I admit to taking this from my personalized google homepage. But as everyone doesn't have one of those, I wanted to share the thought. It just made perfect sense to me today.

Not a Wonderful Time

Yesterday afternoon and today haven't been too great.
A lady at the apartment complex backed into my car today. She ran off before I could get her insurance information, but she told me she would get it to me. Hopefully that will happen today.
I'm about to leave work to go to the body shop to get an estimate, then see if I can find her. I'm 95% positive that she is one of the ladies that works in the realty office, which is right in front of my apartment. Hopefully I can get most of this handled today.
At least I should get a paintjob out of the deal. And considering someone has keyed my car in the past, that's pretty good. They will quite possibly have to replace the driver's side door, leaving me only one original door on this car. And I haven't even had an accident that was my fault!

08 August 2006

I should have called in dead after lunch. It was a BITCH. I got slammed, and the phones got slammed. So the boss comes up on me about that while I'm with the VERY LAST of my in person customers, so he's tiffed with me about the phones getting backed up. OR, at least, it feels that way. It could just be the depression thing again. I have been slightly paranoid lately. I'll admit it.
And I almost did call in dead. I think it was Chuck's suggestion...(Lunch is slightly fuzzy. Must be the water...) But I decided not to.

Shaun was late again coming in. He called and got me at a few minutes before 11 and said he had forgotten to set his alarm clock again. It's been a few weeks since the last time, maybe he'll be around through the Fall Rush anyway.

Our new bookstore will hopefully open tomorrow. Hopefully. I can start buying books on Thursday. I'm going to be sure to be in the 2 weeks before classes start just in case a class gets cancelled. I don't want to be stuck with books I can't use. And I want to get in the new bookstore early too. I want to see if before it gets full of kids. It's supposed to be nice.

New Pet

Yes...I'm dumb enough to get a virtual pet. I saw one on somebody's blog and clicked the link. Then I decided to make one just for the hell of it.
Mr. Tadakeichi is the name of Chiyo-chan's big dog in Azumanga Diao. One of these days I will finish that series. It's very funny.

Today has been something of a boring day. iTech has a new word. Sekecting. I'm not exactly sure what this means. It might be a synonym for selecting. Or it might be a way of cussing out students without their knowledge. I'm not really sure.

Well, now it's almost five and time for me to go home. I'll be counting down for the next three minutes. Three minutes to life...

Smokers

I don't have anything against smokers in general, I PROMISE! I have several friends that are fairly heavy smokers. I'll even stand around talking to them while they are smoking. It really doesn't bother me at all.
What does bother me is someone who smells strongly enough of cigarettes to nearly knock me off my chair from ACROSS the counter. I've stuck my nose in full ashtrays that didn't smell as bad as the guy that was just in my office. I have a headache from just being in his presence for a minute and a half.
How can people stand to smell like that all the time. Have they never heard of taking a bath?!? I actually prefer someone with terribly strong cologne to the STRONG smell of cigarettes...
